About Kasenyi Safari Camp

Our Story, Your Sanctuary

Born from a passion for conservation, community, and comfort, Kasenyi Safari Camp was founded with a vision: to offer travelers an intimate, immersive safari experience that respects the rhythms of nature and the heritage of the land.

What began as a simple camp for nature enthusiasts has grown into a beloved lodge known for its warm hospitality, stunning location, and personal approach to wildlife experiences.

A Natural Crossroads

Set near Lake Bunyampaka, a Salt Lake surrounded by dramatic crater landscapes and traditional salt mining communities, Kasenyi Safari Camp offers panoramic views of the Kasenyi Savannah Plains, one of the best game-viewing areas in the park.

The Kasenyi sector is famed for its lions, large herds of Ugandan kob, and frequent sightings of leopards, buffalo, hyenas, and more. The nearby lake draws flamingos, pelicans, and other waterbirds, making it a paradise for bird lovers and photographers alike.

From your private deck, you may watch elephants, waterbucks, or wake up to the sound of African fish eagles calling above the lake.

A Legacy Etched in Every Tent

At Kasenyi Safari Camp, each of our tented cottages carries the name of a remarkable African porter — men whose strength, intelligence, and unwavering spirit made some of the greatest journeys across Africa possible.

These weren’t just porters. They were navigators, leaders, diplomats, and storytellers — the often-unsung heroes who guided early explorers through the most unforgiving terrains of the continent. By naming our cottages in their honor, we pay daily tribute to their legacy and ensure their stories are never forgotten.

The Names Behind the Canvas

Sidi

Once enslaved, later a revered expedition leader, Sidi became a central figure in journeys led by Burton, Speke, and Stanley around the Rwenzori Mountains near Queen Elizabeth National Park. He was known for his linguistic brilliance and command over large teams.

Chuma & Susi

Loyal attendants of Dr. David Livingstone, these two men are remembered for carrying the explorer’s body over a thousand miles to the coast after his death — preserving his journals and ensuring the world knew his story. Later met and helped Stanley.

Jacob

A rare literate porter, Jacob not only helped transport Livingstone’s body but also kept records, conducted prayers, and left one of the only African-written accounts of the expedition.

Mabruiki

A strong and steady hand in the toughest conditions, Mabruiki was known for his bravery and calm presence in moments of crisis on several major treks. He worked with Stanley on his expeditions around East Africa.

Amoda & Wakatani

Trusted men of endurance and loyalty, they were part of the support system behind Livingstone’s final journey, carrying not just supplies, but the weight of history.

Wellington

Less widely known but deeply respected, Wellington served with quiet strength. His steady presence helped his expedition teams navigate difficult terrains and moments of uncertainty with grace.
